Week 6: Simple Pleasures So I’m on a Beach Body 30 Day Challenge and it’s a lot of fun. I’m learning a lot about myself and my tolerance level for pain. I’ve adjusted my eating habits, so one of the things that I consider a simple pleasure now is pureed broccoli, spinach, bok choy, and apples. Yummy! I can tell you, there’s no way that I would have done this challenge if I didn’t think I could make it through. Sometimes, you can lose before you start. What do I mean? If you don’t think you can’t accomplish something, then most likely you won’t. But to flip that..if you believe you can, then you will! It shall come to pass!

Week 5: Out of Focus Drive I do a lot of driving. Depending upon where I’m going, I spend a few hours each day driving. If you asked me a few years ago, I would have told you that I’m not particularly fond of driving. It used to be the most stressful part of my life until I learned how to deal with it. What did I do? I decided not to focus on the drive, but instead on the destination. While driving, instead of thinking about inconsiderate people on the road or the stop & go traffic, I think about where I’m going and what I’m going to do when I get there. I removed driving away from my focus. It’s funny how the distance & speed that I drive daily rarely ever changes, but it always seems like I get to my destination a lot faster. Sometimes, we focus too much on where we are in life right now. We focus on the wrong things — the bills piling up, the doctor’s latest findings, the relationship that isn’t going the way you expected — that we lose focus of what God already promised. Yes, we have to deal with whatever we’re going through, but we don’t have to make it our focus. When we do, we’re going to be in a bad mood…maybe even depressed. But when we focus on God and His promises, those issues that seemed impossible will soon be forgotten because while we are focusing on God, He will be bringing us out! Today choose to put your problems out of focus and expect God to cause you to be victorious as you focus on Him! About the Shot: The funny thing about this shot is that I used a ladder as a tripod (because I don’t trust my current tripod outdoors) and I used the timer on the camera. It took a while to get a shot that was out of focus… I ended up cropping it because I didn’t like that too much of the car was showing and I didn’t even want the picture to focus on that. LOL!

Week 4: Mean Muggin’ I’ve been told that when I’m not smiling, I’m mean muggin’. LOL! So this week’s quest was to take a picture of me without a smile on my face that doesn’t look like I’m mean. I’m not sure that I succeeded. But at least I can now be more aware of my facial expressions. Awareness is the first step to any of life’s challenges. If you have a problem, but you’re not aware of it, you can’t solve it. If there’s something out there that’s yours, but you’re not aware of it, you won’t know to go get it. What is it that you aren’t aware of? Clearly the answer won’t be obvious to you so perhaps you should ask someone else who’s close to you.

Week 3: Is He Here Yet? I recall being a little girl and looking out the window waiting for my father to arrive home from work. He always would bring home some snacks or something yummy to eat. When I finally saw him, my face would light up! Today, I have that same expectancy of my heavenly Father. I’m daily looking to see what good things He’s bringing home to me. God loves us all and He wants to continually give us good and not evil; He wants us to have beautiful things to enjoy and not ugly things that cause destruction in our lives. If you’re facing anything bad today, know that it’s not from God. However, you can count on Him to turn what the enemy meant for your harm into something good for you! For this photo, I went to an upstairs room in my parent’s house. It was taken at about 5 pm in Michigan, which is when it starts to get dark in the wintertime. The light was beginning to fade, but finally my dad arrive home and I was able to look out the window and snap the shot of myself (using a 2 second timer) just in time. I took a lot of practice shots before, but I had to keep changing the settings because the light kept changing. It’s kind of out of focus, but it was a smile for my daddy!

Week 2: Possibilities With 51 weeks to go, the possibilities are endless when it comes to ways to photograph myself. Yet for my second shot, I decided to go back to the location of the first shot to see if I could achieve another look using a different viewpoint. My tripod wasn’t tall enough to capture the shot from the angle I wanted; it would only allow me to see eye-to-eye with the camera. To overcome this obstacle, I hung my camera off of the hook on the door from a shortened strap. This reminds me that in life, you can look at a situation eye-to-eye or you can make the adjustment to get above the situation. It took some work to shorten my strap and to get the camera to remain steady enough for the shots, but I finally got it right where I wanted it. When you adjust by rising above the situations you face, even though it may be difficult, the better perspective will cause you to see that you’re stronger than those obstacles. All things are possible to him who believes! http://www.aminacameron.com/2012/01/the-52-week-self-portrait-photo-project-intro/ (Click the link above to read the Intro to my 52-Week Self Portrait Photo Project.
